What is LE- Leadership Embodiment?
Leadership Embodiment gives you simple and immediately accessible tools for increasing the qualities of leadership presence – the ability to show up as strong, inclusive, visible and confident in a leadership role.
During LE training, we explore our habitual reactions to stressful situations. We learn and practice LE techniques that shift the way we sit and stand to give us greater access to our innate capacity for wisdom, confidence and compassion.
We emphasize expanding and including, to shift our stress patterns from ‘me’ (Personality) to an experience of ‘we’ (Center).
We know a lot about the “what” that is needed for great leadership, Competence, Warmth & Authenticity.
Through mindfulness and technique we are able to cultivate these qualities allowing us to gain influence and lead with inspiration rather then fear. Through interactive exercises, the Leadership Embodiment model will offer you a “How” to cultivate these qualities, building the skills that will allow you to lead with warmth, confidence and authenticity.
The Body always wins. We can “know” all the right things to do but when we are confronted with duress/ stress our bodies revert to Fight/ Flight or Freeze. Leadership Embodiment offers exercises and practices that can, in real time, modify the stress response and allow us to quickly recover our Big Picture thinking, Warmth and Confidence while under pressure.
LE practices give us Choice in how we respond
We learn from contrast and repetition and Doing. If reading a book wasenough we would already be the best leaders we could be. Having an action oriented process helps build the “muscle” of a new, more skillful habit.
We do not rise to our expectations, we fall to our level of training
Join us for our “360 in a bottle” stress assessment simulator. By applying light physical pressure in partner practice we stimulate our “baseline stress pattern.” Once we discover our habitual pattern we can then use mindfulness to apply the LE technique of Centering to quickly shift, through form and focus to our more warm/inclusive and confident state. Applied in meetings and conversations the Centering technique gives us Choice in how we respond. The program will focus on Inclusivity, Skillful listening and how to Influence through Inspiration.
Where does LE come from?
LE is martial arts and neuroscience
The history of this model comes from the Japanese martial art Aikido and Mindfulness. Our focus in LE, is on the energetic patterns, hormones and muscle groups as a way of assessing reactive stress patterns.
We work with 3 key hormones in our bodies
- Cortisol is released in response to stress and shuts down the part of the brain connected to big picture thinking, creativity and risk taking.
- Testosterone reinforces confidence and reinvigorates the part of the brain connected to big picture thinking, creativity and risk taking.
- Oxytocin activates a built-in mechanism for caring and connection.
We also focus on the 2 large muscle groups
These are flexors and extensors. When flexors are activated, cortisol is released and when extensors are activated testosterone is released.

Goals and Outcomes
Assessment of baseline stress pattern
- Goal – Become familiar with early signs of stress pattern activation.
- Outcome – Can start to recognize pattern activation in “real time” and use Centering practice to quickly recover resulting in de-escalation of possible conflicts, saving time and energy.
Introduction to LE model core language and principals
- Goal – Client is oriented to the importance/value of studying and attending to the 70% of communication that is non-verbal
- Outcome – Can start to attend to and effect the 70% of their non-verbal’s leading to clearer communication and greater influence.
Training basic LE practices and exercises
- Goal – Build capacity to more easily recognize when we have been “triggered” or are being reactive/not taking skillful action.
- Outcome – Early recovery using LE exercises resulting in more skillful action, greater interconnectedness and stronger leadership effectiveness.
Begin development in techniques for the LE Leadership Competencies
- Goal -Through practices, start to increase clients ability to be Inclusive, Receive Feedback skillfully and Speak up/Take action
- Outcome – “Real time” practices and action items in every day situations resulting in stronger integration, skillful responses and leadership capabilities.

- Goal – Using practices in “real-time” situations to make more skillful responses and decisions. Building practices into everyday life for greater access and sustainability.

WENDY PALMER
Founder Leadership Embodiment
Wendy Palmer is the founder of LEADERSHIP EMBODIMENT, a process that uses principles from the Japanese martial art of Aikido and mindfulness to offer simple tools and practices to increase creativity and resilience in leaders. Wendy holds a sixth degree black belt in Aikido and has practiced mindfulness for 45 years.
She has worked with executive teams and individuals for Twitter, Genentech, Jazz Pharmaceuticals, The Gap, NASA, Salesforce.com, McKinsey &Co, Oracle, Unilever, The BBC and The Daimler Chrysler Group. She is the author of three books, Leadership Embodiment, The Intuitive Body and The Practice of Freedom.
